A simple HEPA filtering facepiece

چکیده
•The public is sometimes exposed to damaging small particle aerosols including SARS-Cov-2. •During shortages, facepieces available the do not protect against aerosols. •We report designing homemade masks from home air purifier “true HEPA” filters. •These function similar an N95. Shortages of efficient filtering facepiece respirators leave vulnerable transmission infectious diseases in This study demonstrates that a high-filtration-efficiency capable out >95% 0.05?m particles while being worn can be simply produced with materials.

Total inward leakage of nanoparticles through filtering facepiece respirators.
Nanoparticle (<100 nm size) exposure in workplaces is a major concern because of the potential impact on human health. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-approved particulate respirators are recommended for protection against nanoparticles based on their filtration efficiency at sealed conditions. Concerns have been raised on the lack of information for face seal leak...
متن کاملEvaluation of five decontamination methods for filtering facepiece respirators.
Concerns have been raised regarding the availability of National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-certified N95 filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) during an influenza pandemic. One possible strategy to mitigate a respirator shortage is to reuse FFRs following a biological decontamination process to render infectious material on the FFR inactive. However, little data exis...
متن کاملSurvival of Bacteriophage MS2 on Filtering Facepiece Respirator Coupons
The reuse of filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) after decontamination has been suggested as a strategy to conserve supplies during an influenza pandemic. The feasibility of decontaminating FFRs has been investigated under laboratory conditions; however, the need for decontamination of FFRs is not well characterized. In this study the potential for FFRs to act as fomites was examined using b...
متن کاملEvaluation of N95 Filtering Facepiece Respirators Challenged with Engineered Nanoparticles
NIOSH-certified respirators, including N95 respirators, are recommended when engineering and administrative controls do not adequately prevent exposures to airborne nanomaterials. Laboratory evaluations of filtering efficiency using standard test aerosols have been reported in the literature, but there is no information on penetration of engineered nanoparticles (1–100 nm) for N95 filtering fac...
متن کاملSize-Resolved Penetration of Filtering Materials from CE-Marked Filtering Facepiece Respirators
Throughout the years, the performance of the FFRs has been the topic of extensive studies, resulting mainly in the characterization of aerosol penetration through filters using aerosols that are thought to be similar to those encountered in workplaces. There are limited number of studies in the literature reporting CE-marked respirator performance, and there is a need to perform a penetration e...
